Welcome to the website of Andrew W. Klein
Thanks for visiting! I’m a professor of English at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick where I specialize in medieval English literature. I have an abiding interest in how literature frames, creates, and crystallizes identity. We are a story-telling species, and part of the purpose of our stories is to distill our sense of self and our sense of others. There is power, both beautiful and frightening, in the words we write not just to spin an entertaining yarn but to create the categories by which we perceive our world. By this token, my recent research is particularly focused on the development of England as a nation in a variety of transnational literary traditions–England as a global identity in the eyes of the rest of the medieval world.
